WHO Strengthens Zimbabwe's Malaria Control Programme
Harare, 12 April 2010. The Zimbabwean malaria control programme was given a boost on 8th April, when WHO handed over vehicles, malaria commodities, and medicines to strengthen malaria control activities, and EPI disease surveillance, to the Minister of Health and Child Welfare.
Speaking at the handover ceremony, WHO Representative, Dr Custodia Mandlhate said, in an effort to support the indoor residual spraying programme and other activities to prevent malaria; to promote the equi-distribution of the new Coartemether and other anti-malarial drugs; and to improve surveillance for vaccine preventable diseases; WHO used its resource mobilization capacity to purchase for the Ministry of Health and Child Welfare the following.
